I love me my DEWALT D55151 Twin Hot Dog Compressor is a small air compressor , which has the power and durability of a large air compressor.. Ladies, if you want to nail something- this’ll do the trick! Okay, but all joking aside, I used this to nail down the subfloor and underlayment for my kitchen/dining room remodel, frame a couple of small walls and lay down plywood in the attic for flooring with my hitachi framing nailer. Worked like a charm, plenty of pressure.
Procduct arrived as promised. All components were included as specified. Easy to set up. Only issue is that I would like to buy the recommended synthetic replacement oil and do not know where it is available. Home Depot does not offer the synthetic oil. Maybe DeWalt can suggested a store.

Does the Work of a Much Larger Compressor

I recently purchased this for my father, we work on a cabin in Canada, using a generator, and we wanted lightweight as we haul items in and out by boat. Also, the generator is not that large (3000 watt) and it handled this compressor without any problem. I previously purchased an oil-lubed compressor for myself (PC, 2.5 hp, dual tank, model CPLDC2540S), because I wanted something quite. I was surprised when I turned this compressor on, as it seems quieter than mine!! It also weighs less than mine!
There is 1 minute of assembly requiring a phillips screwdriver, but it was fairly easy (attach the motor to the tank, although the hose is already attached).
I think it is a good buy from of a good brand.
Why did I get this compressor?
Perfect for everything from filling tires to firing nailers, this compressor features an induction motor that provides long life and optimum performance.
Here is what it is great for:
(1) The best reason of all – lightweight (34 lbs.) but still has punch. You will actually use this w/o hesitation because of weight. Great for running up stairs. Easy to set down on a moving pad w/o too much worry about denting finished flooring. Easy to move through doorways/prevent damaged jambs. No oily residue around motor. Start-up is circuit breaker friendly. Small footprint/low profile, (a real asset when carrying so many tools).
(2) Great for running finish guns. They don’t have high CFM requirements, so why keep carrying around the 60lb+ compressor?
(3) Basic everyday homeowner needs; tire inflation, blowing off dusty workbench, filter cleaning, etc. This compressor is perfect for you. Buy it, you will have no regrets.
(4) The higher/150psi is good for the occasional “kick” for some harder wood. (most top out at 120-135psi) Just be sure to dial it back down afterward to save the nailgun seals.
(5) Higher pressure allows for the 120 psi cut-in/restart. This means more useable air pressure for the nailgun; a decrease in the last 2 or 3 shots not being countersank by the gun because of low pressure/waiting for the compressor to kick in. When it drops to 120 psi, it restarts. Most other compressors in this class max out/shut off at 120 psi.
(6) Larger tank, (6 gallon), and higher CFM @ 90psi than most other compressors in this class.
(7) More durable and it has features that make sense, (2 hose couplers, a new handle design lets you run a cable to lock it up at the jobsite). It’s better designed than most other small compressors.
There’s a reason you see this compressor so often on a finish carpenter’s rig – great bang-for-the-buck and it works well. If your expectations are realistic, it will last too. As far as the comments I see about it being loud, it’s not any louder than other compressors of similar capacity and price, and actually quieter than some of the rest.

One of my BIGGEST complaints, and the reason I’ve dropped a star off the review is the fact that the Hose Connections (2 of them, which is nice feature at this price) are attached directly to the gauge panel. The unfortunate part about this is that if the hose gets pulled, the whole gauge panel will rotate on the threaded air output from the tank. So far, it’s happened to me about 3-4 times and it hasn’t caused a problem– but I’d really have to reconsider this for a medium duty environment. It’s only a matter of time before it begins to leak.

I am a general contractor and framer. This compressor is amazing!! I’ve opperated many compressors over the years, and this is the quietest, most well built compressor I’ve seen. It also has a good recovery time. I can nail off sheathing on a roof and this little beauty keeps right up with me.
A great compresser for the operation of one framing gun at a time. It has no trouble keeping up no matter what you are doing. I wouldn’t recommend it for two framing guns at once.
Though it might keep up framing walls, but not with sheathing.

I think it’s the best for the following:
A) This compressor just purrs. People are amazed when it’s running. Big rubber feet also help prevent transmitting vibration to whatever it’s sitting on, so no more vibrating boards.
B) Over-built compressor compared to tank size – so cycle times are very short – if using light-duty tools, it doesn’t run much anyway. Also runs way more cool than others – I’ll save those sear lines for my steak on the grill – not my forearm.
C) No leaks – holds its air pressure seemingly forever when turned off (not that you shouldn’t release pressure when done using it).
D) The air filter is a miniature version of an old-time car air filter. For a unit that’s going to be sitting on the ground amidst swirling construction dust, this is a big plus.
E) It does indeed weigh in, but at least the design is very compact. The frame wraps around and protects most of the important stuff, so there are no lines, wires, etc. waiting to be snagged. The glaring exception is the air filter hanging off the side – I can see this part’s going to be replaced at some point when I throw it in a truck bed. No problem for shop use though.
